Marijuana growing in rural California brings trouble to a narcisstic rock star.
What future is there for a young musician when things turn dark and desperate? What's coming down at the home of the rock star? Was that gunshots? And were those underage girls hanging out at the mountain retreat of Madrone County's most visible musician? And who are those older hippy women and why are they competing for the love of an ex-con? Why do thousands of young people gravitate toward this tiny community in the mountains not far from the ocean? Why has everyone Gone North?
"Gone North" is part tragic documentary and part coming of age story set amidst the perils of growing marijuana in California’s steep, heavily forested mountains among crooked cops and church going pot growers. When an ex-con and a rock star butt heads over women and the threat of exposure to law enforcement, all hell breaks loose, but many of those caught in the middle are school teachers, carpenters, bank tellers and your standard array of small town citizens trying to survive miles away from the nearest city. This is the story of what happened, twenty plus years after the summer of love, to people who fled suburbia after the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, the high value of Mom and Pop crops drew unwanted visitors from the city who wanted to exploit the region, grow hundreds of plants, cut and run, leaving the locals to deal with the political fallout.
