Therapeutic short stories

Once upon a time there was a polar bear that went along with the circus. Yet they hadn’t needed him for the show but only for display. Therefore, it was always in the caravan. However, that was so small that it could only take two steps forward and two steps back. They then felt sorry for it and said to each other: “We’ll just sell it to a zoo. He now had lots of room. Yet, there, he still only went two steps forward and two steps back. Another polar bear asked him: “Well, why do you do that?” It replied: “That’s because I had been in the caravan for so long.” (from: Gunthard Weber: “Zweierlei Glück”)

SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE POLAR BEARS

Remain stuck in a problem although they could walk. Don’t notice it. And then go to psychotherapy.
But: Anyone who can take two steps can walk! It only needs to be rediscovered. But how? This is what this book is about.
In 16 partly touching, partly funny case stories, the reader experiences first hand that what the client originally presents as his greatest weakness mutates to a strength in the course of unconventional therapeutic interventions which heal the person.
Thoma’s imperturbable belief in the self-healing powers of people, his gift to make the unthinkable thinkable, in order to enable the impossible, ends up in a simple and promising message: “The strength of the solution is in the problem!”

From the contents: The man with the weather station on his leg/The alcoholic who had to act like a drunk/The bed-wetter who slept on a target/The woman with eating disorders who fed the pig within her/The woman who scared off her anxiety with a whistle/The Catholic who went through hell, to name a few.
