University of Jinan
Jinan, Shandong, China

My 49th birthday. It’s winter break at the Universty of Jinan [UJN] – where I teach EFL under contract as a CCP certified foreign expert. The campus is deserted during this Chinese Spring Festival peak travel period, the traditional but chaotic national holiday marking the lunar New Year. At time of wrting, I live alone in a ghost town, down to my last few non-counterfeit 100RMB banknotes. I escape from solitary isolation in an impulsive walk from my campus apartment to the nearby Hualian supermarket. As I walk, I pause to take photos of the campus surroundings as chronological documentation – data collection.

1) snapshot on experiential instance of spontaneous visual pleasure in perception of location detail assessment;
2) in-frame shot composition of affective location detail;
3) image-enhancement on Photoshop as aestheticized interpretivist rendering of subjective auto-ethnographer perceptual phenomena;
4) PDF final report presentation as image assembly based on chronological sequence of fieldwork data collection.
