The paper summarizes some of the research on older people as offenders

This paper summarizes some of the research on older people as offenders, in particular the elderly in prison. The definition of 'old' is explained and used for every topic in this paper. The actual amount of the older prisoner population is showed and the increasing trend of the elderly as offenders, those who are already arrested, is drew by empirical graphs and statistics. Furthermore, theoretical deliberations are presented and discussed and specific offences related to elder criminals are given. A contrary popular belief, related to specific kinds of crime, is proved by an own survey, but not empirical secured. In addition, reasons for older people to commit a crime are presented and shortly compared to those for younger offenders. A discussion about the whole findings is completing the paper and the need for more research is necessary and addressed.
