Started March 9th in the year 2012 and I'll post updates as I write ('back-to-front'...as usual)...
To write a 'heart-warming' story (or stories) of courage, hope, faith and especially love, as well as the incredible power of the human imagination
Hopefully it'll be 'a celebration of a boy's, a woman's , a family's unique vision – a vision that reaches out and shines, touching with magic the drama of life across all its limitless horizons.”
Written FOR MY BELOVED SONS. Gareth and Sean...and yes you too, Marie
'Watching children grow
is like threatening the ivy
to climb the garden wall.
You wait for it to happen
you hurry it along with love.
But still you’re disappointed
at giving someone life enough
to walk off on their own
and not be carried in your arms.
You never turn back, not once,
and yet one day they've grown apart
It's all the same.
Polly put the kettle on, we'll all have tea.
Giving love to children
has made us older overnight.'
– Rod McKune
'Hope is the anchor of the soul.'
'Hope is a state of mind, not of the world. Hope, in this deep and powerful sense, is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously heading for success; but rather an ability to work for something, because it is good.'
- Vaclav Havel (Former President of Chezkoslovakia?? and play-right)
'From the depth of the valleys, in the deserts of despair, there is hope… as there is the unquenchable oasis, the immense breadth and depth of the human spirit… always.'
'When you have hope in your heart, then you'll never walk alone.'
- craig (as inspired by the signage at the Liverpool football stadium in England)
NOW LET' S WRITE THE STORY!
SHATTERED AND BROKEN!
'People speak glibly about life changing moments. Some truly qualify. You propose marriage and are accepted. You hear, 'You're hired' or 'You're fired' and your future shifts instantly. The doctor says 'malignant' (or something else life-changing) and everything is different. But anyone who has ever lived through it will tell you: It is profoundly shattering to learn, in one instant, that everything you thought was true about a loved one (my words: or perhaps your own life) is actually a lie. (Your entire world is turned upside down - what you thought about yourself, and what gave meaning to your life). The world rocks on its axis; when it is finally steady again, you are in a strange place that resembles, but is totally unlike the place you were in just a moment earlier.'
- fine and perceptive writing by Diana B Henriques from 'Wizard of Lies; Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust'
From A Book Extract (as published in the New Zealand Herald)
And with two small children in a new country that's exactly as I felt..as I heard the words of the specialist saying '....and that's why you aren't coping ', as my beloved wife and I walked out of the building... shattered. Numb with shock...
So simple... and yet...all the pieces of the jigsaw would later begin to fit into place
Yet 'out of adversity springs resilience.'
'When love endures, hope inevitably follows,
when hope endures dreams never die - they live on.'

“Here was a light behind the despair, beyond the darkness. At first a flicker of an ember, just a tiny pin-prick of dawning possibilities. Then burning slowly, brightly and bigger, a glimmer, a candle in the blackness of despair, which gave off just enough of a glow (luminescence?) to light a path. And so show the rest of us the way ahead… a path to endless possibilities…from the darkness into the eternal light.”
as adapted (slightly) from Rian Malan’s powerful words in ‘My Traitor’s Heart’
So let's go back to the very beginning...
