In-line Process Monitoring of Series Production of Endless Fiber Reinforced Components

The successful implementation of lightweight components requires not only experience in design and simulation, but also experience in production technology, which is necessary for the required high number of units and different part sizes. In most cases, mass production is only implemented if both weight reduction and functional integration can be achieved with a considerable cost reduction. Consequently, an efficient production method is the combination of thermoforming of endless fiber reinforced inserts like organo sheets and injection molding.
Since the process step heating of the organo sheet is of high importance, it is necessary to document and analyze the process data in order to be able to produce reproducible component quality. Therefore, KraussMaffei has developed an own infrared heating control system that is fully integrated in the standard machine control. This enables in-line process monitoring of the overall process. In summary, a production cell for the series production of endless fiber reinforced components with integrated in-line process monitoring was implemented.
