During that time he has won more than 30 writing awards, including honors from The Associated Press, United Press International, Reuters, The ...show more The author, Evan Moore, 70, is a semi-retired long-form narrative writer and editor for newspapers and magazines whose career has spanned more than 40 years. During that time he has won more than 30 writing awards, including honors from The Associated Press, United Press International, Reuters, The Texas Institute of Letters and the Mayborn Nonfiction Literary Conference. In addition to Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang (his first novel) he has published a cook book and numerous essays, many of which have won awards. A number of those essays (“Redemption at the Rockhound Museum” and “A Cigarette on the Champs Elysees”) have been published in Ten Spurs, the annual collection of the best work reviewed at the Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference. Others (“Hardy's Blind Rattler,” “Ambrose,” “The Ghost Within,” to name a few) have been published in State Lines, a compilation of essays dealing with Texas, now in its second edition.
In addition to his writing career, Moore has worked as a cowboy, a carpenter and the publisher of a weekly newspaper.
