Acting out Biblical stories with finger puppets
ABOUT THIS UNIT

Aim:

Students act out a Biblical story with finger puppets, using life-like/dramatic intonation. They prepare their own mini-play based on a Biblical story.

- Levels: pre-intermediate / intermediate (A2-B1)
- Time: approx. 6 hours

Procedure:

Prompted by a flashcard, students recollect the story of Zacchaeus. They then put into order the mixed-up sentences of the Biblical account.

They read a dramatised version and practise dramatic, life-like intonation. With the help of finger puppets, they act out this version.

In a game, they learn and practise stationery vocabulary and expressions for making requests (which they will need later when they make their own finger puppets from master copies).

Small groups choose a Biblical story each, which they transform into a finger puppet play: first they discuss the cast and dialogues. Then they make their own set of puppets and rehearse their play. Each play is presented to the rest of the class.

This unit includes master copies for finger puppets (man, woman, boy and girl master), which can be coloured in, cut out, glued and stapled.


THE 'ENGLISH FOR CHRISTIANS' SERIES

'English for Christians' prepares language learners to interact successfully in a Christian English-speaking environment. This series of supplementary materials can be used alongside any course book. It covers a range of Christian topics, skills and language levels and is suitable for Christians of all denominations.

Whereas most Christian EFL* materials seek to convert learners to the Christian faith, this series is designed for students who are already Christians, and does not follow an evangelistic approach.


* EFL (English as a Foreign Language) = ESL (English as a Second Language) = ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) = ELT (English Language Teaching) = TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) = TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) = TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
