Manufacturing of Load Optimized Structural Parts from Thermoplastic Tapes with Focus on Flexibility and Efficiency

The combination of a pick-&-place tape laying cell with a consolidation press employing conductive heating and cooling enables fully automated production of net-shape tape blanks in a one-minute cycle time. Furthermore, stacking and consolidation can be directly linked to the heating with an infrared oven and the subsequent shaping/functionalization in the injection molding. This contributes to reduced energy consumption. Under these conditions an outstanding productivity is achieved that allows mass production of lightweight components with an attractive cost structure.
