Thermoplastic Profiles as Part of the
Thermoplastic Composite Toolbox by SGL Carbon

Carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics gain in importance when it comes to high volume production due to their ability for short forming and consolidation times. A comprehensive portfolio of semi-finished materials with a one-matrix approach helps to produce components with optimum chemical compatibility and eased processability. Besides tapes, organo sheets and long-fiber reinforced thermoplastics, unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced profiles represent the most recently developed constituent of the Thermoplastic Composite Toolbox by SGL Carbon. This paper shows specific characteristics of such profiles that enable a considerably enhanced design space to manufacture complex composite structures that are optimized according to the load path.
