Organomodified Siloxanes – An Additive Technology as Eabler to Establish Novel and Improve Existing Processing Technologies of Thermoplastics Composites

Thermoplastic Composites, upcoming structural lightweight materials, can be handled in adjusted conventional manufacturing processes with short cycle times and feature designed properties. One approach to find a balance between meeting the required lightweight performance and reduced costs can be a multi-material approach. The missing compatibility between different materials can be gained by using tailor made additives on the fibre surface or in the polymeric matrix. Furthermore, flow behaviour can be improved to reach a better fibre impregnation and an interaction between different materials can be achieved by exploiting the key-locker principle performance of these additives. Organomodified siloxanes (OMS) are applicable for thermoset and thermoplastic composites and especially used in new materials like UD tapes and material combinations like FRP / metal approaches.
