Chilimba S Hamavhwa is a therapist, specialising in both person-centred therapy and family therapy. He obtained his university education in the United Kingdom from the University of Manchester (Education for Primary Healthcare) and University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff (Public Health). At the completion of this book, he has returned to his PhD studies in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Bristol University, from which he had taken leave.

Chilimba has vast experience working in HIV and AIDS and counselling environments. He has been to many countries in Africa and other continents. His overseas work largely took place in the UK. He had placement at Withington Hospital Addiction Unit in Manchester. He also worked as a therapist with Cardiff Mind, a mental health organisation. This occupation linked him up with clients at the largest psychiatric referral hospital in South Wales: Whitchurch Hospital. He has counselling consultancies with both government line ministries and local and international NGOs.

Some of his counselling consultancies have seen him take up job assignments in Botswana, where he worked with UNICEF in developing training materials and conducting training for healthcare professionals in the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTC) Programme. UNDP recently contracted Chilimba to provide voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) for government Principal Secretaries in Lesotho, which led to the country’s mass-testing programme. He has presented various papers at local and international conferences on counselling, mental health, HIV and AIDS, and others.

He is currently a Principal Lecturer at Chainama College of Health Sciences, where he heads the Department of Continuing Education in Health and Research. The college is in Lusaka, Zambia. In addition to this, he manages his own private counselling practice.

Chilimba is a devout Christian and ordained Minister of Religion. His interests and hobbies include sharing about the Lord Jesus Christ to others, making friends, keeping fit, playing the guitar and keyboards, singing Christian music, and reading.
