A Novel Acoustic Streaming Thermal Management System

A new approach for an inaudible and long lasting thermal management system working at ultrasonic frequencies is presented. The device components are designed to maximize the acoustic streaming effect. It is built around a small 5 mm diameter piezo electric ultrasonic actuator that offers high oscillation amplitudes and that has been developed for this purpose. The setup used to capture a first set of data showing the system performance is described. How these results match the prediction and what next steps are planned to achieve an improvement of the technology will be discussed. This work is based on previous own research and describes a first real world
approach on the cooling based on quartz wind. The measurements show a cooling effect with significant temperature drops. However the energy used on the actuator still exceeds the achieved dissipation of energy from the heat sink.
