Compact Moving-Magnet Actuator for Automation and its Control

Single-phase moving-magnet actuators with slotted stator winding are well-suited as translatory direct drives for travel ranges up to approximately 20 mm. They feature a simple structure, linear behaviour and good dynamics. Furthermore they offer high forces at small volume and little losses. Two novel variants of such an actuator differing in the guide of the mover are presented: a compact and robust one with integrated ball bushing and a second one with integrated flexure guide. Latter variant shows neither stick-slip nor backlash and enables cleanroom and vacuum applications. Flatness-based position control has successfully been implemented and tested with both versions, qualifying these actuators for many applications that require fast and precise positioning.
