Electrical Breakdown Behavior of SEBS Elastomer Films with Various Stiffnesses for Application in Soft Electro-Mechanical Transducers

We report experimental methods and theoretical approaches for the characterization of voltage-stretch and electrical-breakdown behavior in soft dielectrics. The use of experiment data and theoretical considerations may help to predict failure mechanisms and lead to materials optimization in soft dielectrics and transducers. Our results on thermoplastic co-polymers and acrylic elastomers will be useful for soft-transducer applications e.g. in refractive or diffractive (fiber-) optical devices.
