Vibration Control of the Main Mirror of the E-ELT Telescope

The results of different control vibration techniques applied to the main mirror of the future E-ELT telescope are presented, together with a discussion of the pros and cons of each of them. Two parallel control loops are foreseen: a low-frequency position loop to follow commands from an external loop and an active damping and isolation system to minimize the impact of vibrations. Stability issues derived from the interaction between the different loops and from the MIMO nature of the system, together with practical issues such as complexity and characteristics of sensors and actuators, are discussed.
