Temperature-Dependent Dynamic Characteristics of Piezostack Actuator: Experimental Work

This paper presents changes in material characteristics of a piezostack actuator under various temperature including extremely high conditions. In order to achieve this goal, a heat chamber is made with stainless steel and insulated by aerogel which can withstand high temperature. The temperature inside the chamber is regulated by electric heat wire and is controlled from the room temperature to 190℃. A commercial piezostack actuator manufactured by PIEZOMECHANIK is employed and installed inside the manufactured heat chamber. The output responses such as free stroke and generating force of the piezostck actuator with respect to the electric field are measured by laser sensor and load cell. The temperature conditions are applied to the piezostack
actuator from 30℃ to 190℃ by increasing every 10℃. After obtaining the performance of the piezostack actuator in every temperature conditions, the obtained results are displayed in time and temperature domains. The phase delay, creep and distortion of output displacement and generating force of the piezostack actuator are also observed at high temperatures.
