Actuators from Head to Toe – Biomedical Applications of New Actuators
P.P. Pott, H.F. Schlaak
Technische Universität Darmstadt, Darmstadt, Germany
Abstract:
Modern medical technology relies on actuation. Starting from active systems for patient handling, drug delivery, and image acquisition and it is still far from finished in orthoses, prostheses, and implants. The medical environment strictly specifies a number of harsh specifications that have to be met by actuation
systems: sterility, MR compatibility, handling of aggressive fluids, and power density just to mention a few examples.
This paper will dive into practical applications explain requirements, and demonstrate how the physical principles can be employed for the benefit of health.
