Design of a Deformable Trailing Edge Using Macro-Fiber Composite Actuators

Abstract:
The present paper will take a closer look at the design of a deformable trailing edge actuated using macro fiber composites. An analytical model for the actuator will be derived and the basis of the model will be highlighted. On the basis of this analytical model a selection of a suitable substrate-actuator configuration is done. The model will then be numerically verified using the finite element software ANSYS. The designed actuator will then be used in order to equip a deformable high-frequent trailing edge of an airfoil.
