Development of a Magnetorheological Damper with an in Two Ways Adjustable Magnetic Field for an Electrically Powered Car with Wheel Hub Motors

Abstract:
With the integration of wheel hub motors in electrically powered cars the unsprung masses are increasing. This leads to new demands for the chassis design. A recent Fraunhofer LBF approach is an adaptive magnetorheological damper with a two way adjustable magnetic field. An adjustable field generated by a physically moveable permanent magnet is superposed by a second field generated by a solenoid coil. As a result it is possible to design a very energy efficient magnetorheological damper.
