A Photosensitive Nanomagnetic Polymer Based Actuator Membrane Fabricated Using Sol-Gel Technique

In this paper, a hybrid membrane made of polymer material with embedded magnetic nano-particles (magnetic NP) is presented. A simple sol-gel technique is proposed to fabricate the polymer nano-composite layer which is considered as a simple and cost effective method. The observation results show that the magnetic particles are distributed consistently inside the polymer chain. The results reveal that the polymer composite can be good patterned. The effect of the embedded material on the deformation characteristic of the membrane is analyzed in various structures and geometries with constant force acting on the membrane and the volume of Ni particles. A good agreement between simulation and calculation on maximum deflection of Polymer membrane without
magnet particles has been observed. Therefore, the study has revealed that the polymer nanocomposite material can be fabricated using standard MEMS process and improve the deformation capability of the actuator membrane which should give benefit for the future development of fluids injection system in Lab-on-Chip.
