Active Fine Positioning Chuck for Industrial Turning Applications

Clamping positioning errors in lathes often cause production failures or cost-intensive post-processing. To adjust eccentricity and wobble errors, an active chuck is being developed. By integrating a positioning unit and a measurement system, the novel system enables the correction in four degrees of freedom. Beneath design and functional principle, the experimental investigation of the achievable positioning accuracy and stiffness is the objective of the presented work. The results justify the suitability of using active chucks for industrial application.
