Single Sheet Handling Using Vacuum and Ultrasonic Vibration

Abstract:
This research focuses on single sheet handling, for example, turning page for scanning books. Normally, vacuum suction is used for such handling. Sometimes, a vacuum nozzle might hold multiple sheets/pages. To handle single sheet accurately, application of ultrasonic vibration is proposed. We can expect squeeze thin film to generate repulsive force acting on the second and later sheets in case of holding multiple sheets. This paper reports development of the mechanism for feasibility tests and successful handling of plastic sheets as well as paper sheets. Characterization of forces acting on sheets during holding are also presented.
