In the field of materials science, and in particular fibre-reinforced plastics, large amounts of research data are generated from various experiments. These data are mostly stored on local computer systems that makes their later use and dissemination unrealistic. Therefore, digital data collection and storage systems are an emerging topic within material sciences. Within the DFG funded project “AimData” researchers develop an approach to facilitate the utilization of scientific data in material sciences, resulting in the “InfoSys” system. In contrast to traditional data repositories, InfoSys models every pertinent aspect of the experiment and the materials tested therein – thereby supporting the initial design of the experiment, its execution and the ensuing results. The underlying data model is designed and evaluated to fulfil the requirements of different classes of materials such as metals and fibre-reinforced plastics.
