Fiber ondulation and damage as well as limited draping properties of multiaxial non-crimp fabrics are caused by the knitting process, which will be significantly improved by a newly developed technology based on adhesive bonding. Due to a special ITM-patented process using locally varying and matrix-compatible injected adhesives, multiaxial non-crimp fabrics can be equipped with adjustable draping properties for the realization of lightweight components with complex geometries. The reduction of fiber ondulation and damage will result in enhanced mechanical properties for composites by means of these innovative adhesive-bonded multiaxial non-crimp fabrics.
