On 12 may this year it was the 25th anniversary of the agreement of a ceasefire in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. When it concluded this extremely important agreement, Azerbaijan expected the cessation of military operations along the line of contact to create favourable conditions for a more active negotiation process and to help to achieve a political solution to the conflict in the near future.
However, the destructive policy of the Armenia ruling circles, backed by radical nationalist segments of society, and the diaspora, posed a major obstacle on the way. All these years, The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has been and remains a serious threat to peace and security in the region, preventing the South Caucasus countries from achieving full-fledged cooperation.
