A retelling of the murder of Christian monks by Indians in Trinidad in 1699
In 1699 in the Spanish colony of Trinidad, Indians on a Capuchin mission near the Arena River revolted, murdering monks, the Spanish Governor and his attendants. Up, Down retells the story of the massacre and examines how the killings and the punishment of the murderers affected people who lived further down the Arena River. The message: Death and murder anywhere affects us all, our society, our relationships, the water we drink and even the food we eat.
